Full Biography

IMG_5159As the founding executive director of the Red Umbrella Project (RedUP), Dacia led anti-violence, legislative advocacy, and media campaigns to fight stigma and discrimination against sex workers, and led workshops on writing and media skills for sex workers in NYC and beyond. She is the editor of RedUP’s biannual literary journal Prose & Lore: Memoir Stories About Sex Work, as well as Ceyenne Doroshow’s book Cooking in Heels: A Memoir Cookbook (Red Umbrella Project, 2012) and is the author of Naked on the Internet: Hookups, Downloads, and Cashing in On Internet Sexploration (Seal Press, 2007).

Audacia was an executive editor at the Utne Reader award-winning sex worker-run $pread magazine from 2005-2008  and edited the Naked City blog for the Village Voice in 2008. Her personal blog Waking Vixen, which she ran from 2004-2011, won a Best Sex Blogger award in its first year, and got Audacia named to Fleshbot’s 2005 Top 10 Crushes and Violet Blue’s Hottest Sex Geeks in 2006, and recognized as Best Sex Blogger on the Village Voice’s Best of NYC in 2010. Audacia has done communications work for the International Women’s Health Coalition and the Global Network of Sex Work Projects. Audacia has a BA from Eugene Lang College at the New School and a MA from Columbia University.
