$pread Magazine
Executive Editor, January 2005 – January 2008
$pread is a quarterly glossy magazine by and for sex workers and those who support their rights. The magazine was founded in 2004 and its first issue was launched in March 2005.
As executive editor at $rpead, Audacia solicited content and edited columns, news, and feature articles. She also researched and wrote global news shorts, a fashion column, and an arts & culture featured interview in each issue.
During her tenure at the magazine, Audacia produced successful fundraising campaigns including parties, readings, performances, and fashion shows. She also led public relations efforts, pitched local and national media outlets, and represented $pread in The New York Times, The Nation, Bitch, Crain’s New York Business, El Diaro, and more.
Audacia curated two benefit art exhibitions called Sex Worker Visions, which featured art made by sex workers from around the world. The first Visions show celebrated $pread’s one year anniversary at The GLBT Community Center in New York City’s West Village. The second show, which opened in 2007, featured art by Annie Sprinkle, Zak Smith, Genevive Zacconi, and Margie Schnibbe, in addition to a special opening night exhibition and silent auction of hand-decorated dildos by sex workers.
